Presented by: Nicola Schaan, Reg. OT (BC) and Jen Taubensee, Reg. OT (BC),
Canada faces an unprecedented shortage of occupational therapists and around the globe clinicians face constraints of time and resources across roles and settings. This can make meaningful, occupation-focused, holistic care challenging, negatively impacting the quality of care and, in turn, can impact job satisfaction. Conflict between organizational structures and relationship-focused collaborative care can leave healthcare providers feeling stuck. We will explore tangible examples from the pediatric continuum of care for how to leverage the systemic power of their role to get unstuck. Using the Canadian Model of Occupational Participation, we explore where we have power and influence within our roles to maximize meaning in the care we provide. Using a reflection tool provided, we invite participants to share and reflect on their own experiences and how they leverage power in their role.
After taking part in this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Identify the systemic power and influence in their role
- Recognize gaps as well as tangible examples specific to their practice to maximize meaningful care
- Get unstuck, feel excited about their role, and impact those who use occupational therapy services
