Recorded On: 06/28/2022

Presented by: Dr. Lynn Christie

Individuals with a diagnosis of depression experience symptoms that impact their ability to participate in their daily occupations. It is important for occupational therapists to utilize the most effective interventions, based on the research and the service user perspective.

This webinar will begin with a brief overview of a mixed methods occupational therapy doctoral research study into the effectiveness of occupational therapy in enabling individuals with a diagnosis of depression, to improve their occupational performance and participation. The impact of occupational therapy on depressive symptoms will be considered. This webinar will also share the most effective components of occupational therapy from the service user perspective.

After taking part in this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the findings of an occupational therapy mixed methods study into the effectiveness of occupational therapy for people with a diagnosis of depression.
  2. Recognize service user perspectives on the impact of occupational therapy and what particularly helps them to improve their occupational performance and participation in everyday activities.
  3. Understand how the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (Law et al., 2019) can be used in research and in everyday clinical practice with people with a diagnosis of depression.
