Serving Canadian Armed Forces Veterans: Strategies for Occupational Therapists

Recorded On: 06/03/2025

Presented by: Ashley C. Williams

Many occupational therapists work with serving military-connected clients across Canada through the Canadian Forces Health Service Group, Veterans Affairs Canada, and within provincial/territorial public health systems. However, there is limited availability of professional development resources providing guidance on how to effectively serve this unique population.  This webinar will focus on Veterans who have recently transitioned to civilian life and to the civilian health system. Specifically, the contexts in which occupational therapists work with Veterans, challenges in access to and quality of care for Veterans during military-to-civilian transition, and ways in which OTs can improve access and quality of care for Veterans with a focus on cultural competence will be covered.

After taking part in this webinar, you will be able to:

  1. Describe the challenges associated with the transition from military to civilian health systems
  2. Identify actions and resources for working with Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members/Veterans
