Sleep disturbances affect mood, cognition, energy, and participation, making them a critical yet often under-addressed area in occupational therapy. Occupational therapists are uniquely equipped to intervene through evidence-informed behavioural, environmental, emotional, cognitive, and daytime functioning strategies. This webinar will explore how occupational therapists can address sleep challenges through multiple domains. Participants will learn evidence-informed strategies, including key elements of cognitive-behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), alongside tools for fatigue management, emotional regulation, and optimizing daily routines. The webinar will also cover assessment approaches and practical techniques that can be integrated into occupation-centred practice. Emphasis will be placed on supporting mental health, restoring participation, and improving overall quality of life by helping clients achieve more restorative sleep.
After taking part in this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Identify the ways occupational therapists can address sleep through behavioural, environmental, emotional, cognitive, and daytime functioning interventions.
- Apply evidence-informed strategies, including elements of CBT-I, to support clients in improving sleep quality and managing fatigue.
- Integrate multi-domain sleep interventions into occupation-centred practice to enhance mental health, daily participation, and overall well-being.
