Approximately 8% of Canadian occupational therapists are in leadership positions, such as manager, leader, or coordinator (Canadian Institute for Health Information, 2022). Many occupational therapists transition into formal leadership positions (i.e. managing teams or projects) with little to no training.
This webinar will explore followership, motivation, feedback, communication, coaching, mentorship, being an emotionally intelligent manager, and transition period as a new manager. The unique skills of occupational therapists to manage and lead teams will be explored. This webinar will serve as a reference guide to some tips on surviving those first few years for occupational therapists new to formal leadership positions.
After taking part in this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Utilize practical strategies to lead interprofessional healthcare teams and projects.
- Explain the unique skills of occupational therapists to manage and lead teams.
- Feel more confident handling team dynamics and individual performance, even when new to leadership positions.
