Several assessments and screening tools frequently used in occupational therapy to evaluate children with various occupational performance and participation challenges have been recently updated. Occupational therapists must consider how to incorporate current versions of common assessments, consider new measurement tools, and strive to offer culturally safer assessment processes. This webinar will provide essential information about current editions of common pediatric assessments and visual neglect assessments used to assess children with various occupational performance challenges. Current pediatric assessments and screening tools discussed include: the Peabody Developmental Motor Scales, 3rd Edition (PDMS-3; Folio & Fewell, 2023), the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency, 3rd Edition (BOT-3; Bruininks & Bruininks 2024), the Structured Observations of Sensory Integration – Motor (SOSI-M; Blanche et al., 2021), and the Evaluation in Ayres Sensory Integration (EASI; Mailloux et al., 2018) Vestibular and Proprioceptive Tests, the Teddy Bear Cancellation Test (TBCT; Laurent-Vannier et al., 2006), and the Infant and Toddler Neglect Task (Kriksciun et al., 2021). Current challenges, opportunities, and strategies to support culturally safer assessment practices will be discussed.
After taking part in this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Discuss new pediatric assessments and the changes to updated, revised assessments which are commonly used in pediatric occupational therapy.
- Select appropriate assessments which meet the needs of the child and family, and use strategies to integrate cultural awareness, sensitivity, and competency throughout the evaluation process.
- Describe how to access essential resources to support the assessment process in pediatric occupational therapy practice.
